Welcome to the websites of Children’s Rainforest Japan (CRJ). This NGO was established in 1989 for the purpose of supporting conservation activities for tropical forests especially in Costa Rica. It belongs to the International Children’s Rainforest Network (ICRN) and exchanging information on conservation projects.
We have supported two Costa Rican organizations:
Monteverde Conservation League (MCL) administrates The Children’s Eternal Rainforest which was established by children’s supports from 44 nations and became the largest private reserve in Central America, 17,200 hectares. Children members of Children’s Rainforest Japan raised funds by collecting aluminum cans and contributed it to purchase about 16 hectares of it. The land was named “Children’s Rainforest Japan”. We have also send money from Japanese donor for visitor’s house exhibition, reforestation, patrol equipment and environmental education project.
Guanacaste Conservation Area (GCA) is 113,000 terrestrial hectares and 43,000 marine hectares of permanently conserved government-owned wildlands in northwestern Costa Rica. GCA was established with the express purpose of restoring an entire ecosystem of dry forest, along with the adjacent ecosystems of rain forest, cloud forest and the marine environments, and to assure the survival of its biodiversity in the future. CRJ have supported many projects, such as reforestation program, rainforest research program and researcher training program given by the National Biodiversity Institute (INBio). We also assist the Guanacaste Dry Forest Conservation Fund (GDFCF) established by Professor Daniel H. Janzen. GCA was was designated as a World Heritage site in 1999.
Clildren’s activities:
Members of CRJ gather several times a month in Minenohara-kougen, Susaka city, Nagano where CRJ’s base is and collect empty cans or do farmworkto to raise funds for conservation of tropical forest. Not only children but also neighborhood adults participate in activities such as rice-planting, nature watching, study meetings, lectures, concerts and parties and understand importance of conservation of nature.
